Keeping My Chops Up

Posted by: Carol Gancia on Monday, June 21, 2010

My video entry to the Artsopolis Silicon Valley Artshots 2010 Competition is posted below.

I enjoy being part of local video competitions. It keeps my chops up. It can also be a great opportunity to meet amazing people in the community.

Artsopolis, a local arts organization in Silicon Valley, launched a filmmaking competition in early 2010. They paired participating filmmakers with local artists in San Jose. The filmmakers produced a 90-second film promoting the local artists assigned to them, within a set period. After completing the film, they emailed all of their friends and colleagues the link to the voting site. Suffice it to say I didn’t have a network large enough to win my film the most number of votes. I did get lucky enough to produce a story about a wonderful non-profit group called Community School for Music and Arts or CSMA in Mountain View, CA. Today, the wonderful people behind the organization continue to be part of my life. And I will always be grateful.

Keeping It Local

I love technology and enjoy supporting entrepreneurs! I produced this video late last year, and it remains to be one of my favorite projects. It’s called “Local Places For Mobile.”

This mobile application feature lets you star search results on Google maps in your computer and have them automatically show up on your smartphone. It also lets you conveniently search local businesses on your phone.  Check out this charming video with Josh, product manager for Google Mobile Local Search.
